America’s Cultural Anesthesia

America’s Cultural Anesthesia

Artist Chris Jordan gives an arresting talk about what Western culture looks like right now, this day. His supersized images picture some almost unimaginable statistics — such as the number of plastic cups used by the airlines each day (4 million) all of which go unrecycled, or the number of paper cups used in America (40 million). These images demonstrate just how numb we’ve become as a society to the damage we do. It’s as if we’ve stopped feeling and as a result have stopped caring. Chris’s images bring the feeling back and make us ask ourselves, “what can I do”.
